Objective: To compare internal plate fixation (IPF) versus intermaxillary fixation (IMF) for Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomies (IVRO) in mandibular setback on the following outcome measures: psychological impact, clinical morbidities, skeletal stability and temporomandibular joint functions.Methods: 14 patients diagnosed with mandibular prognathism underwent IVRO and were randomized to either IMF group or IPF group.Assessment of psychological outcomes using standardized questionnaires was done at preoperative, post-operative 3 days, 2, 4, 6, 7 weeks, 3 and 6 months.Skeletal stability was assessed by serial comparison of lateral cephalometric radiographs with a stable screw landmark placed at the distal and proximal segment during the surgery.Temporomandibular joint outcomes were analysed using Helkimo Index and complications were recorded using standardized questionnaires.
