Drug-or alcohol-related hepatotoxicity is the most common cause of liver failure,which has been associated with the induction of oxidant stress and inflammatory stress.The human hepatoma cell line HepG2 is frequently used in in vitro models for human biomedical research.In this work we evaluated the suitability of this model to predict hepatotoxicity of alcohol, paracetamol (drug) and tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP, oxidizing agent), as well as whether the pro-inflammatory cytokine necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) alters these damage.
