Internalization and sorting of agonist-stimulated receptors between divergent recycling and degradative membrane pathway are critical events determining the functional consequences of p-opioid receptor (MOR).It has been generally accepted that phosphorylation is important for desensitization,internalization and down-regulation of MOR.However,in the view of results in HEK 293 cells,we observed that a mutant MOR,substituting the identified phosphorylation sites in the carboxyl terminal for alanine,exhibited agonist-induced internalization and recycling not significantly different from wild type MOR.The other truncated mutant MOR,missing the distal portion of carboxyl-termina containing these sites of regulatory phosphorylation,underwent decreased internalization and mostly sorted to lysosome for degradation.
