The long cultivated history and widely growing of the Chinese cymbidium, Cymbidium faberi in Eastern Asia promote this species as one of the most traditional and famous oriental orchids. Based on their difference in floral labellum shape, floral colour, scent and leaf form, C. faberi can be divided into different kinds of cultivarieties. However, the identification of the cultivarieties is difficult during vegetative period of life history, and sometimes, same cultivariety can show different phenotypes under different cultivation conditions. Moreover, some artificial hybridizing cultivarieties with the name of natural varieties disturbed the traditional market of the Chinese cymbidium.
