Nanoparticles with size of 1 to 100 nm have potential applications in bio-imaging,drug delivery and cancer therapeutics. When nanoparticles contact with biological fluids, protein coatings(so-called protein coronas)are formed on the nanoparticles. The protein corona alters the surface properties of the nanoparticles and thus governs the interactions between the nanoparticles and cells. As a result, the protein corona determines the fate of nanoparticles in a biological system1.
