The research was motivated by the fact that nowadays most workplaces expect employees to work in an open-plan office and be capable of working as part of a team.In our experimental research conducted among university students,we examined the relationship between the participantspersonality types(on the introverted-extroverted scale)and their knowledge-management techniques in a team work environment. We found it relevant to do the research with university students as they represent the new, prospective generation of employees on the labour market. The participants were asked to complete the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(1975),and based on their scores three experimental groups were formed: one consisting of members with an introverted personality, another only with extroverted participants and the third which included both types of participants and served as a control group in the experiment.During the 60-minute-long experiment, the groups were given a task which required no special knowledge, but was intended to incite participants to come up with creative, new ideas and to "think out of the box".Each team was supposed to plan and build up a tool-using the given materials-which would be capable of flying. While the groups were working on the given task,we observed different characteristics of teamwork(e.g.how members share and assemble knowledge fragments, communication, level and quality of cooperation,etc.).Having observed the cooperation in each group,we noticed a fundamental difference in how introverts and extroverts use their common knowledge for problem-solving.Introverts strongly relied on their own thoughts and seemed to find it difficult to build on each others ideas. The participants in the introverted group started to plan the execution of the task individually, which led to low level of communication and cooperation within the group.Gradually they started to share their ideas in order to come up with one common solution, but it is important to note, that in the beginning each member had their own concepts how to carry out the given task.
