Polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)is a commonly used bone cement materials for the treatment of vertebral compression fracture by percutaneous vertebroplasty and percutaneous kyphoplasty operations. However,it has been reported that PMMA bone cement may cause fracture at adjacent vertebrae, since adjacent vertebrae would be compressed by hard PMMA bone cement; and the set cement may be dislodged from the vertebral body, because bioinert PMMA cannot form osteointegration with autologous bone tissue.
