Alice Walker’s 1998 book, Father’s Smile, explores the impact of violence on the growth of black women in the framework of the conflict between father and daughter. The novel not only deepens the violent destruction of women by black males in “purple” but also highlights the problem of blacks’ seeking and self-cognition. Based on the sentence “God says man has the power over the earth” during the missionary mission of black priest Robinson, this paper analyzes the leading ideologies that cover up domestic violence, gender violence and ethnic violence and points out that it is exactly these Thoughts hindered Robinson’s right to know oneself, to know her daughter, to know other black brothers.
