连续浇铸首先应用在有色合金中;連續鑄鋼在第二次世界大战以后,才有比較广泛的研究与发展。目前,这項技术发展得很快,有不少国家都在进行試驗研究,苏联现在已开始建立生产能力为150吨/小时的连续铸钢设备。 1957年12月原上海鋼鉄公司建立了我国第一台连续铸钢机,配合的爐子是0.5吨的直筒型侧吹酸性转爐。试验是在該设备上进行的,目的是为了确定合理的工艺制度,以提高产量和改善鑄坯質量,并取得設計連續鑄钢机和工业性生产必需的設計参数和工艺参数。
