This article discusses the differences between Chinese and English verbal communication from the aspects of the time, content and mode of communication. Due to differences in cultural backgrounds, modes of communication and communication strategies, Chinese people often communicate with British and American people and cause misunderstandings until they fail. Thus in the process of teaching and learning, learners not only need to master the necessary knowledge of the language, but also to grasp the pragmatic principles of the use of language
