Objective To investigate the relationship between the average platelet volume and gastrointestinal symptoms in children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the average platelet volume and the presence or absence of gastrointestinal symptoms in 50 children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura hospitalized in our hospital from 2009 to June 2010, and 50 healthy children were selected as normal controls. Results ① There were 27 cases (54%) of gastrointestinal symptoms in 50 cases of Henoch-Schonlein purpura; ② The average platelet volume of children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura was (7.7 ± 0.6) and (8.0 ± 0.5) The average volume of platelets in children with purpura was smaller than that in the normal control group. The average volume of platelets in children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura was (6.9 ± 0.9) in 27 cases, and the mean platelet volume in 23 children without digestive symptoms was ( 7.8 ± 0.5), children with gastrointestinal symptoms of Henoch-Schonlein purpura, the average volume of platelets than children without gastrointestinal symptoms of small. Prompt allergic children with smaller average volume of platelets more prone to gastrointestinal symptoms (P <0.01). Conclusions Children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura are more likely to have gastrointestinal symptoms when the average platelet volume is smaller. The mean platelet volume can be used as one of the clinical indicators for the treatment of Henoch-Schonlein purpura in children.
