Objective To investigate the influencing factors of lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) in female patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome (MS). Methods A total of 227 female patients with T2DM were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of MS. The changes of lumbar spine BMD and its influencing factors were analyzed. Results BMD of T2DM patients with MS was significantly higher than that of women without MS (t = 2.033, P <0.05). BMD was positively correlated with body mass and body mass index (BMI) (r = 0.191, (r = -0.211, P <0.01). The multivariate stepwise regression analysis showed that age and body weight were independent factors influencing lumbar spine BMD (P <0.01; P <0.05) 0.05). Conclusion The risk of BMD and fractures in women with T2DM complicated with MS is closely related to the obesity and aging. The absolute body mass has a certain protective effect on the bone mass of patients.
