According to Du Bin and other reports by the Chinese Society of Pathophysiology Critical Care Medicine Committee and the “Chinese Medical Journal” Editorial Committee, hosted by the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Physiology Critical Care Medicine contractors of the Sixth National Conference on Critical Care Medicine in 2004 September 22 to 26 held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. Over 500 delegates from all over the country (including Taiwan Province and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China) and the United States, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Sweden, Australia, Singapore and other countries, including medical staff engaged in critical care medicine and research in pathophysiology personnel. Chinese Society of Pathophysiology Critical Care Medicine Committee also invited Professor Margaret Parker, chairman of the Society for Critical Care Medicine and Professor Graham Ramsay, chairman of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, respectively, to lead the delegation. At the same time, Professor PatrickTan, chairman of the Asia Pacific Coalition of Critical Care Medicine, was also present. Serious infections are among the three acute killers in hospitalized patients today, with high mortality rates. The 2001 Barcelona Declaration aims to raise the awareness of the global medical community about serious infections with a view to improving treatment and reducing mortality. In 2004 by the American Society of Critical Care Medicine and the European Society of Critical Care Medicine and other 11 international academic community jointly issued a guideline for the treatment of systemic infection (survivingsepsiscampaignguideline). According to the spirit of the Barcelona Declaration, this session highlights the guidelines for the treatment of systemic infections and discusses them from different angles of evidence-based medicine and clinical practice.
