Objective To investigate the effect of extended nursing on self-care ability and health behavior in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods Seventy-four patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were diagnosed and treated in Zhuhai Second People’s Hospital from April 2015 to June 2016 were selected as randomized lots and randomized into groups. The control group (n = 37) was given routine nursing care and nursing Group (n = 37) received extended care based on routine care comparing self-care and health behaviors in both groups. Results Before nursing, there was no significant difference between ESCA score and HPLP score in nursing group and control group (all P> 0.05). After nursing, the scores of ESCA and HPLP in nursing group were higher than those in control group <0.01). CONCLUSION: Extended nursing can improve the self-care ability of patients with type 2 diabetes and improve their health behaviors, which is worth learning from.
