以中期空区(孕震空区)图象为背景,在应变释放加速后转平的基础上,逐步缩小时空强三维轴向扫描窗长和步长,从多维空间探索强震进入短期阶段空区的特征及判据指标,提出了通过时空强三维轴向稳定性检验确定空区的新方法,通过对华北和西南地区26个震例的研究分析,发现在孕震空区形成后期、强震前9~16个月,震源区附近出现一种有别于孕震空区的短期空区.这类空区一般持续4~7个月,震前3~8个月结束,结束的标志往往是空区内部或边缘出现显著地震,空区内出现小震活动.
