This article reports the long-term efficacy of preoperative radiotherapy and resection of 113 patients with rectal cancer at stages T3 and T4 (UT3 and UT4) undergoing endoscopic transurethral ultrasonography (EUS) from 1988 to 1997. Every 3 months after surgery (before 2 years), 6 months (after 3 years) and annual follow-up once. Local recurrence (LR) is defined as histology, radiology or clinical examination to confirm pelvic, peritoneal or anastomotic tumor. All patients before surgery
