Objective The purpose of this study is to explore the relevance and significance of the pure tone audiometry test for pilots in the physical examination of pilots and the means of detecting hearing under whispered and flying noises and to explore the feasibility of loosening the standard of hearing of civil aviation pilots. Methods According to the provisions of 4.13.1.1 and 4.13.1.2 of the medical examination standards of civil aviation pilots (GB16408.1-1996), the hearing of 15 flight crews in North China in 1997 was below the standard, After the release of the information for analysis. Results The test showed that 15 pilots were capable of flying in the noise environment of the cockpit of the aircraft. The communication between air and ground and the communication between aircrews were normal. None of the pilots affected the flight connection and operation due to audition after the flight by the medical examination department. Conclusion There are differences between pure tone electric audiometry and air spoken dialogue. Under the premise of ensuring the flight safety and maintaining the health of pilots, the standards should be relaxed and testing methods should be improved to reduce the waste of manpower and material resources.
