阿尔弗雷德·巴尔(Alfred H.Barr)是纽约现代艺术博物馆第一任馆长,曾在威尔斯利大学任艺术史副教授,在担任纽约现代艺术博物馆馆长之前,巴尔对欧洲进行了为期一年的游学,在欧洲参观了各大博物馆与美术馆,并对包豪斯进行了参观访问。在游学期间看到了异军突起的各种运动,如立体主义、达达、怪诞主义等,这些风格独特的运动对从大洋彼岸来的巴尔来说无疑是强大的视觉冲击波。巴尔回到美国后想介绍这些运动给美国大众观看的思绪一直萦绕心中,最后在其担任纽约现代艺术博物馆馆长后得以实现。
Alfred H. Barr is the first curator of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and an associate professor of art history at the University of Wales. Before his appointment as curator of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Barr made his way to Europe A year-long study tour, visited major museums and galleries in Europe, and visited Bauhaus. During the study tour to see the sudden emergence of a variety of movements, such as Cubism, Dada, weirdism, these unique style of movement from the other side of the Atlantic Bar is undoubtedly a powerful visual impact wave. When Barr returned to the United States, he wanted to introduce these movements to the view of the American public, and finally came to its realization as director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
