Tips: The Fool’s Day Fool’s Day originated in France. In 1564, France first adopted the new reform of the Chronology - the Gregorian calendar (the current common solar calendar), with January 1 as the beginning of a year. However, some conservative people oppose this reform and still persevere in the Lunar New Year on April 1 to send gifts to celebrate the New Year. Advocates of the reform mocked these old-fashioned practices. Clever and funny people gave them fake gifts on April 1, inviting them to attend the fake reception and calling the duped conservatives “April Fools” or “hooked fish.” Since then, people will fool each other on April 1 and become a popular custom in France. In the early 18th century, April Fool ’s Day custom spread to Britain, and then was brought to the United States by early British immigrants.
