Britain and the United States are two very important countries in world history. The birth of Canada, to a certain extent, is the result of the North American War of Independence. From the announcement of the Royal Charter in 1763 until the Second World War, Britain possessed strong control over Canada. However, after World War II, Canada gradually shifted from the British to the U.S.. British control of Canada for centuries dissipated in a short period of time. Studying the evolution of the relationship between Canada and the Anglo-American countries after World War II helps to understand the relations between Britain, Canada and the United States. It also helps to draw lessons from the experience of the rise of great powers.
