A silver-containing ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst was made and used in the oxidation reaction of ethanol to acetaldehyde. The results show that this catalyst has a markedly higher activity for the title reaction, in which a complete conversion can be achieved at 593 K, than the traditional silver catalyst which manifests catalytic activity only over 773 K. The TPD profiles of adsorbed NH3and O2on the new catalyst were recorded and correlated to the catalytic behavior.
