Based on the conventional auto-correlation particle image velocimetry (PIV) system, a cross-correlation particle image velocimetry system using CCD camera is developed. Using this new system to measure the confrontation flow field results show that this technique overcomes the difficulties of the auto-correlation particle image velocimetry in measuring flow fields with stagnant points. Experiments show that this technique is faster and more efficient than auto-correlation particle image velocimetry
