German plastics specialists have now introduced linear and curved FRP bellows to the construction market. This FRP truss, designed by a dedicated computer software program, consists of an upper and a lower supporting corrugated material and can produce lengths up to 30 m. According to the company, such trusses are characterized by their simple design, high bearing capacity, high chemical and corrosion resistance, and low maintenance requirements. Another major advantage is that this truss beam can be easily manufactured to the specific user’s specifications. Compared with high-grade steel or pultruded FRP-made truss beams, this new design is claimed to be extremely low-cost because it does not have to be painted for corrosion protection or expensive molds for manufacturing. The curved shape of this truss beam is said to be an innovation because it has not been possible to obtain a bend in a design until now.
