Japan’s Kawasaki Steel Corporation has successfully developed ultra-thin, wide-width stainless steel foil with a thickness of 30μm (0.03mm) and a width of 1m, which will be put on the market this fall. In addition to stainless steel, the company is also engaged in the development of nickel alloy, ordinary steel and other metal foils, aiming to open up new applications that have traditionally not been associated with iron. Rolling hard metals such as stainless steel very thinly and flatly has never been considered difficult. Generally, the width of a foil with a thickness of 30 μm is only 50-60 cm, and it has reached the official commercial specifications. However, the company made a breakthrough in the slump of the steel industry.
