Jeansneanski [43,44] did not talk about whether his method is applicable to temperate storms; in fact, however, he seems to rule out the use of this method for temperate storms in defining the magnitude of his standard storms consider. However, it has been found that several techniques of this approach are also applicable if certain differences between tropical and temperate systems are considered. A temperate storm must be somewhat circular in shape (at least its central part must have a closed, closed isobaric line), or else other means of forecasting the storm should be chosen.
