The World Health Organization (WHO) shipped two tranches of more than 125 tons of medical equipment and medicines to health providers in Aleppo, Syria (government-controlled and opposition-controlled areas). All deliveries include surgical materials, medications to treat chronic and infectious diseases, baby incubators, respirators and intensive care (ICU) beds. The first shipment of 26 tons of medical supplies could treat more than 55,000 patients and was delivered to Aleppo Teaching Hospital on December 24, 2013. The second shipment, 80 tons of medical supplies, can treat more than 213,000 patients and was delivered to NGOs, local health authorities and disputed areas in Aleppo on 3 January 2014
