Taiwan’s economic development has benefited from Taiwanese investment in the motherland and mainland China. This is an indisputable fact. After nearly a decade of development, cross-Strait economic and trade exchanges and cooperation have begun to take shape. Taiwan’s investment in the mainland has reached over 11 billion U.S. dollars and its annual exports to Hong Kong have accounted for nearly one-fourth of its total exports. The mainland (including Hong Kong) is not only the major source of Taiwan’s trade surplus, but also the second largest export market in Taiwan after the United States. Studies show that among the growth rates of Taiwan’s economy averaged 6% annually, nearly two percentage points have come from cross-Strait economic and trade exchanges and cooperation. The development of cross-Strait economic and trade relations has greatly benefited Taiwan’s economy. First of all, as the proportion of mainland China (including Hong Kong) in its share of Taiwan’s exports soars, Taiwan’s foreign trade structure has been decentralized from over-concentration in the U.S. market ,Diversification. Moreover, the transfer of Taiwan’s labor-intensive industries will in fact make a long-term export package to the United States
