早在古希腊神话中,希腊主神宙斯之子坦塔罗斯(Tantalus)即因泄露众神的秘密及其他不敬罪行,被罚永远站在上有果树的深水之中,当口渴想喝水时水即减退,腹饥想吃果子时树即升高,还有一块巨石悬在头顶,随时可能掉下。坦塔罗斯这种尴尬处境被称为“坦塔罗斯苦难”。从这个故事中不难想见,西方早期文化对泄密的观念和态度。
