Under the overall framework of NanTroSEIZE, the mission of IODP 333 was to acquire cores at three stations in a section off Shikoku Island, Japan. Drilling was carried out from December 12, 2010 to January 10, 2011. Four long cores were drilled for a total length of 1,005 m. The main research contents of IODP 333 voyage are the Quaternary sedimentary processes of the slope, the bottom of the trench and the ridges of the sea, including the pore pressure, heat flux, clay mineral composition, intra-pore micro-structure, volcanic stratigraphy and so on. As well as the sedimentation of large submarine slopping events, clarifying the basic features and the formation of Quaternary sequence. The integration of the above analysis data is expected to reveal the nature of marginal sediments and their impact on the stress distribution in the strata, the critical stress values and the occurrence of strong earthquakes. In addition, the core drilled also helps to explore other scientific issues such as the formation of deep-sea muddy sedimentary systems, the periodicity of volcanic activity, the composition and genesis of deep-sea green sediments, the vertical distribution of sedimentary structures and the formation process , The depositional dynamics of Quaternary fine particulate matter and the evolution of the submarine topography.
