In Sonnet 18,the speaker of the poem opens with a question that is addressed to the beloved,“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”This question is comparing her to the summer time of the year.It is during this time when the flowers are blooming, trees are full of leaves, the weather is warm, and it is generally thought as an enjoyable time during the year. The speaker gives the feeling again that the summer months are often too short by saying,“And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”The speaker explains how the beloved’s beauty will accomplish this everlasting life unlike a summer. And it is because her beauty is kept alive in this poem, which will last forever. The beloved’s“eternal summer”shall not fade precisely because it is embodied in the sonnet. It will live “as long as men can breathe or eyes can see.”
In the form of pastoral, poet painted the scene that is far away from the hubbub rural life, and expressed strong feelings for lover. In the poem, the poet regards himself as the shepherd boy,and he loves a shepherd girl. The poem reflects the poet’s thought of “carpe diem”,such as“come to live with me,be my love,we will experience all the happiness in life,in the hills and valleys, ravines and infrastructure,in all of the majestic mountains mountains.”In the first section, the shepherd boy sent a direct invitation to the girl he loves, hoped to be able to live together with her,and experienced all happy lives. Finally the author points out: if these happy scene can touch your heart, then live with me,and be my love.Poet uses beautiful vision, romantic colorful image, pure and fresh and natural language to express the hope and love of the desire of the people to live a happy life together, also is an embodiment of thought.
