Nineteen thirties, “The Analects” half-monthly publication Lin Yutang et al efforts to promote humorous culture. It combines Chinese and Western humor culture in an attempt to build a local culture of humor. On the one hand, they are seeking to express their critical political opinions in a political high-pressure environment. On the other hand, they are also creating entertainment venues that vent their lives in turbulent times. The “humor” advocated by the “Analects” semimonthly once aroused enthusiastic pursuit in the society and caused severe criticism. This reflects the embarrassment and pain of the traditional literati changing to the modern literati in the era of the profound national crisis and the prevalence of the revolution. The journal advocates humorous culture, which not only promotes the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures, but also reflects the tortuous progress of urban social culture in the Republic of China to a certain extent.
