The new equations for the state of high pressure launching and seawater have been derived from experimental results by Miami University, Miller and colleagues, and Brawshaw and Schleissher at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. The form of a state equation is a secant bulk modulus with quadratic terms. K = ov ~ o / (v ~ ov ~ p) = K ~ o + AP + BP ~ 2K ~ o = K ~ ow + aS + bS ~ (3/2) A = Aw + cS + dS ~ / 2) B = Bw + eS where v and v ~ p are the specific volume at O and P, and S is the salinity (‰). The coefficient K ~ o_W, A_N, B_W of the pure water part of the equation is a polynomial function of temperature. The standard error of pure water equation V ~ o_W is 4.3 × 10 -6 cm -3g -1. The temperature-dependent parameter a.b.c.d.e is obtained from the high-pressure seawater measurement. The total error of the sea state equation V ~ () is 9.0 × 10 ~ (-6) cm ~ 3g ~ (-1). The standard error of V ~ p is 5.0 × 10 -6 cm -3g -1 for the range of ocean temperature, pressure and salt. The Joint Panel of Experts on the Tables and Standards of UNESCO’s Oceanography recently (1979) recommended the use of the new equation for the state of high-pressure seawater to ocean groups.
