郭熙与郭若虚同为北宋中期著名的绘画理论家,二人的若干绘画理论都表现出相当大的差异性。在论及绘画功用、绘画修养以及具体画林木山石的笔法等方面,郭熙较多从艺术创作自身的规律出发,提出带有鲜明个人色彩的见解;郭若虚则更加强调艺术的社会功用及与画家人格的关联,总结出一些在画史上具有共性的规律。这种画论的差异与二者各自著作体例与定位的不同以及二位理论家自身的社会身份与价值取向的差异有着紧密的关系。
Guo Xi and Guo Ruoxu, both well-known painting theorists in the mid-Northern Song Dynasty, have shown considerable differences in the two painting theories.
