Nitroglycerin-induced vasodilation is used as a control test for flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) to distinguish endothelium-dependent and non-dependent vasodilation. Recently, nitroglycerin-induced vasodilation has been reported as a useful marker of atherosclerosis grading. This study was designed to evaluate the predictive value of combined FMD and nitroglycerin-induced vasodilation for future cardiovascular events. Methods and Results: A total of 402 patients, including patients with cardiovascular disease, were enrolled in the study to determine the vasodilation induced by FMD and nitroglycerin. The median follow-up was 32.2 months, of which 38 were the first to have cardiovascular events (cardiac death, acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and coronary revascularization). Subject curve analysis found that the application alone
