Objective: To study the expression of survivin protein and β-catenin in oral squamous cell carcinoma and their correlation. Methods: The expressions of survivin and β-catenin in 60 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma and 20 cases of normal oral mucosa were detected by immunohistochemical SP method. Results: The expression of β-catenin in all 20 normal oral mucosa tissues was normal, but survivin was not expressed. The abnormal expression rate of β-catenin in oral squamous cell carcinoma was 70%, the positive expression rate of survivin was 66.7%. The expression of β-catenin and survivin had no correlation with the gender, age, squamous cell carcinoma differentiation, clinical stage and location, but with lymph node metastasis. There was a positive correlation between the abnormal expression of β-catenin protein and the positive expression of survivin protein (r = 0.231, p <0.05). Conclusion: β-catenin and survivin may play synergistic roles in the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
