This article examines the distortion of English FIDs in Chinese translation from the perspective of personal deixis. The research shows that improper handling of the translator’s third-person singular pronouns in English FID will result in the discourse being either translated as direct or free direct quotation or translated as indirect or translated as so-called “Two types of ” - that is, the type of quotes that are free and direct quotes and free indirect quotations. This paper argues that the third person singular pronouns in English FID should be reserved in Chinese translation - even though the person is less likely to use the indicator in Chinese FID, only the original FID and its narrative effect are likely to be reproduced to the maximum extent .
