含氟是包头铁矿的主要特征.自熔性烧结矿的胶结相主要由枪晶石和玻璃体所组成,两者的机械强度都较低,对磁铁矿的相对胶结强度也较小.并且胶结相的熔体粘度低,表面张力小,致使冷却时形成多孔薄壁结构.因此,烧结矿的强度很差.随着碱度的提高,当碱度为1.6~2.4时,由于碱度的增加,铁酸钙也大为增加,成为烧结矿的主要胶结相,它一方面具有较好的机械强度,另方面对磁铁矿又有较大的胶结强度,与磁铁矿形成交织与熔蚀结构,所以高碱度烧结矿的强度得到显著提高.可见,铁酸钙有效地抑制了氟对烧结矿强度的破坏作用.
