The World Trade Organization recently released its report on international trade statistics for the first half of 2001 and the first half of 2002. The total volume of world trade in goods dropped for the first time since 1982, while the total value of world trade in goods (in U.S. dollars) dropped by 4.5% The worst drop in more than 10 years. At the same time, service trade also saw its first decline since 1983. The report argues that the recession of global economic activity is manifested in three aspects: First, the contraction of non-domestic investment in 2001 caused the IT bubble to burst.
