Anthropological Perspective: Disturbing the Structure of Power and Knowledge Michael Herzfeld’s social and cultural anthropology has evolved into a practical discipline; it shared some history with colonialism and nationalism and now rejects the paradigm of power between the two, It also rejects the cultural relativism of extremist moral isolationism. It turns to a pragmatic critique of the universal ideology; this is especially so because this ideology threatens a single, often repressive cultural paradigm sometimes expressed The “iron” image of “modernity” --- imposed on the vast world. This issue of the International Journal of Social Sciences is the second of two successive theses on anthropology. Each contributor, as a practitioner in this discipline, presents a series of topics - from aesthetics and cosmology to Ecological and Economic Issues - Writing a series of articles exploring a vast and diverse body of knowledge emerging from human suffering, experience and achievements in an attempt to offset the one-sidedness of this so-called “common sense.”
