据世界旅游组织(WTO)预测,日本海外旅游市场从90年到2000年的10年间将以7.18％的年平均速度增长,之后十年又将以6.93％的速度持续增长,这在发达国家中是最快的。 包括日本在内的东亚地区发展也很迅速,同期年增长率为6.8％,南亚地区也将有6.1％的增幅。世界平均增长速度为3.8％,由此可见亚洲旅游市场发展速度之快, 据WTO的“94年世界旅游市场报告”称,94年世界各国共接待5.2846亿访问者。其中,欧洲3.1505亿,南北美洲1.0849亿,东亚和太平洋地区7474万,非洲1858万,中近东789万,南亚371万。
