以高活性铝阳极为负极,以还原水中溶解氧的水阴极为正极的铝-水电池,在3%和0.1%的食盐水中以97Ω恒电阻放电,其输出电压分别为1.4V和1.3V。其在淡水湖泊中以97Ω恒电阻放电时的输出电压也达到1.3V。高活化的铝阳极在淡水中能在电流密度小于2mA/cm2时,以-1.2V以上的电位正常阳极溶解。其利用率也达到80%以上。水阴极在3%的NaCl溶液中的工作电流密度可达到0.7mA/cm2,在0.1%的NaCl溶液中其工作电流密度仍可达0.3mA/cm2。铝-水电池在流动电解液中放电时产物能正常脱落。理论设计的25W铝-水电池在海水和淡水中的比能量分别为1920Wh/kg和1430Wh/kg。铝-水电池可以潜入海洋底部或淡水河流或湖泊中长期连续工作
