Now to a simple question: Should you be allowed to buy a soda that comes in a container larger than 16 1)ounces. With America’s 2)obesity 3)epidemic getting worse, the Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, is determined to do something about it, and what he wants to do is outlaw what he calls “supersize sodas and other sugary drinks,” a plan that a lot of people may disagree with.
Take a look at this. Today a small, typically a 16 ounces, and they only get bigger from there—20, 30 or 40 ounces or bigger—and Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that is a big problem.
In an effort to win or at least compete in the battle of the 4)bulge, Mayor Bloomberg is proposing a widescale ban on sugary and sweetened beverages over 16 ounces, principally sodas served at restaurants, movie theaters, food carts, even the 5)ball park.
Michael Bloomberg: Obesity is the only public health issue in this country that’s getting worse, and everybody’s 6)wringing their hands: “I gotta do something about it.” Nobody’s doing anything about it.
The Federal Government says Americans consume at least 22 teaspoons of sugar a day. That’s 75 pounds a year. Bloomberg led New York City to the first restaurant ban on artificial transfats in 2008. Now the target is sugar.
Not all sweet or high 7)calorie drinks will be downsized. Off the chart, water, of course, diet sodas,
