Pine wilt disease caused by Bursaphcnchus xylophilus (Stcine et Bwhrer, 1934) is widespread in the stands of Pinus densiflora Sjeb and Iucc p. Thunbergii parl in Japan. In Japan, the first occurrence of wilt disease dates back to the beginning of this century. Forest entomologist Yano (1913) reported the death of the Nagasaki pine tree on Kyushu Island, but at the time was ill-defined. By early 1930, the area of victimization was spreading along the coast of the Seto Inland Sea throughout Kyushu and Honshu.
