The range of grenades includes anti-personnel bombs, anti-aircraft armor, shrapnel, signal flares, smoke bombs, training bombs and tear gas. There are three main types of 40mm grenades on the US grenade launchers, 40 × 46mm low speed, medium speed grenades and 40 × 53mm high speed grenades. 40 × 46mm low-speed, medium-speed grenades for individual grenade launchers; 40 × 53mm high-speed grenades for automatic grenade launchers, can be used on the ground, armored vehicles, helicopters or ships.
