坦克是一种具有强大直射火力、高度越野机动性和坚固装甲防护能力的履带式装甲战车。它是地面作战的主要突击兵器和装甲部队的基本装备,具有高速度、大纵深突击的能力,主要用于与敌坦克及其它装甲战车作战,也可以用来压制和消灭敌人的反坦克武器和其它炮兵武器,摧毁敌人野战工事并歼灭其有生力量。正因为坦克实现了火力、机动性和防护能力的完美结合,所以它才能够纵横一场、逐鹿群雄、大放异彩,成为名刑其实的“陆战之王”。随着作战样式、战场环境和目标特性的不断改变,对坦克的战略机动和战术机动能力的要求越来越高,因此对坦克的重量有了很大的限制。而另一方面,性能先进、威力强大的反坦克武器不断涌现又对坦克的生存能力造成了巨大威胁。如何更有效地平衡坦克火力、机动性和防护能力之间的关系,使坦克在信息化的高技术战争中仍能发挥重要作用,就成了各国坦克专家迫切需要解决的问题。需求牵引和技术推动一直是坦克不断发展的根本原因。随着科技的突飞猛进,以前制约坦克发展的一些关键技术瓶颈也在不断地被攻克和解决。特别是各种新原理、新材料、新技术的不断出现和广泛应用,更加促进了坦克武器装备的发展和性能的大幅度提升,为坦克的发展注入了新的动力。随之而来的是坦克领域一些新概念、新名词的不断涌现,让人耳目一新,全电式坦克就是其中的一种。
