巴黎市区塞纳河的南岸,耸立着一座闻名遐迩的“A”字型钢铁建筑,它就是埃菲尔铁塔。白天,它高大、挺拔的身躯,直捶云天;夜晚,万盏彩灯挂在塔身,璀璨闪烁,巍峨壮观。在巴黎市区的任何角落,无论白天夜晚,都能看到它伟岸的身影。1886年,为了纪念法国资产阶级大革命一百周年和迎接世界博览会,法国政府决定在巴黎建造一座标志性建筑。在应征的700多种方案中,法国政府看中了工程师古斯塔夫·埃菲尔的建塔方案。
