周远明,湖南邵阳人。1984年10月入伍,先后在武警广西总队北海市支队、总队司令部服役;任过排长,营、团职参谋,侦察处长;2012年12月,从武警崇左市支队支队长任上转业,被任命为凭祥市副市长、公安局长。如今,周远明任职凭祥市公安局长已满三年,有一组数据也许可以说明他的成绩:2014年年底,凭祥市一举甩掉戴在头上多年的“毒品重要通道”的帽子;2015年第三季度,凭祥市人民群众社会治安满意度在全区109个县(市)、区的排名中由过去的第30名跃至第三名。这其中有何诀窍?周远明回答说:“大案必破,‘小题’大作。”
