本文从《奥特兰托城堡》的两版序言入手,剖析它们看似截然不同的叙述策略下的内在连贯性,这种似非而是的手法暗合作者沃波尔的创作意图,即开创一种新的写作方式,用现实主义的表现手法把被主流文学传统排斥在外的超自然素材容纳进小说的疆域之内。本文把沃波尔反复强调的两个核心的创作理念——“创造性想象”和“自然真实”——置放在想象话语与传奇复苏的18世纪中期英国文化语境中,认为《城堡》应和了这种潮流,实现了两者的融合,给读者带来愉悦的阅读感受;另一方面,看似自然真实的艺术效果与小说的意识形态潜话语之间存在千丝万缕的联系。
Starting from the preface to the two editions of the “Castle of Otranto”, this article attempts to analyze the inherent coherence under their seemingly different narrative strategies. This paradoxical approach conceals the author’s intention of creating Walpole, The new way of writing uses the realistic expression method to contain the supernatural material excluded from the mainstream literary tradition into the territory of the novel. In this paper, Walpole repeatedly emphasizes the two core creative ideas - “creative imagination” and “natural truth” - placed in the mid-18th century British cultural context of imagination and legendary recovery, that The “Castle” should take this trend and achieve the integration of the two so as to bring readers a pleasant reading experience. On the other hand, there seems to be a gap between the seemingly natural and realistic artistic effect and the ideological latent discourse of the novel Linkage.
