一般地说,人们每天约有三分之一的时间是在枕头上度过的。一个人睡眠的好坏,枕头可谓至关重要的一种寝具。俗话说:“高枕无忧”,意即枕头垫得高高的,能无忧无虑地睡大觉。其实,影响一个人的睡眠,往往与枕具的质地密切相关。据有关专家研究,人入睡以后,头部的温度一般在34—34.5℃,比体温要低几度,如果头部的温度过高,就不容易入睡。现在家庭中日常使用的以荞麦、木棉或塑料泡沫为枕蕊的枕头,由于所填的物料不透气、不容易散发头部所产生的热量,因此,入夏后人们喜欢在上面系一块枕席,其作用是使体热经传导散发到枕上,这样头部就会感到凉爽,容易使人入睡。古人对上述现象不一定能上升到科学的角度予以阐述,但我国古代的一些枕具大都以清火、安神为目的。文献
