自从黄专将我的中国画理论归入为媒体论一方以后,我在中国画领域又多了一个争论面,即真正让我从与保守主义的争论转入到了当代艺术领域的争论,因为在1996年广州举办的“20世纪水墨画的走势”学术讨论会上,无论是黄专提交的论文《中国画的“它者”身份及问题》,还是在会上的发言,都提到了我在中国画领域的一部分主张,继而提出了他自己的观点,并用于与我的争论,黄专在会上说:
